House Invasion: The true-crime documentary A few years ago, Forbes was the first to mention "House Invasion," the true-crime documentary from JT Barnett, the original director and producer of "Tiger King." On X (previously named Twitter), Netflix star Joe Exotic announced he was an executive producer, raising high hopes for "House Invasion." After all, "Tiger King" was a worldwide sensation that sparked cultural discussions and received six Emmy nominations. For the past three years, the development of "House Invasion" has been underway. The documentary centers around a bizarre occurrence that took place inside the residence of prominent producer and celebrity publicist Jonathan Hay, who was in the midst of a project with rap icon Drake. The New York Daily News first reported that Hay was the victim of an armed robbery and home invasion. He was ambushed, attacked, bound, duct taped, and tortured on April 20th, 2017, in a chilling sequence that is the focal point of this docuseries. "House Invasion" recounts the abduction and burglary covered by WHAS-TV and WAVE-TV, committed by Michael Brooks, Louis Simmons Jr., and Quantez Gibson, resulting in their capture and prosecution. The Kentucky State Reformatory is where Hay's former neighbor and friend, Quantez, ended up after being found guilty of orchestrating the crime while seemingly dating Hay's ex-fiancé. Delving deep into the violent case, "House Invasion" uncovers a web of explosive details involving law enforcement, loved ones, an ex-partner, a high-stakes lawsuit, and more. In "House Invasion," viewers follow Jonathan Hay's journey as he navigates through multiple cities, seeking refuge from his trauma and PTSD. The film captures wild house parties, recording studio sessions filled with blaring electronic jazz, and intense behind-the-scenes drama of the music industry. The documentary primarily focuses on self-exploration, pursuing justice, and ensuring accountability for the shocking incident at Mallard Crossing in the peaceful residential neighborhood of St Matthews, located in Louisville, Kentucky. It's surprising to learn that three men from minority backgrounds, Gibson, Brooks, and Simmons Jr., were imprisoned for kidnapping and robbery. The documentary reveals that Gibson's girlfriend, who is also Hay's ex, a 40-year-old Caucasian woman, is believed to be the group's leader, yet she was never taken into custody or interrogated. The film uncovers the surprising connection and relationship between Hay's former partner and the lead detectives handling the case. Shockingly, the detectives were summoned by the ex-fiancé to testify in a two-million-dollar legal dispute against Hay and his right to freedom of speech. "House Invasion" exposes the detectives' prejudiced and biased attitudes towards Hay, highlighting the cops' apparent personal vendetta and the resulting negligence and alleged misconduct within his hometown police department. February 2024 raised anticipation as the deluxe soundtrack for the documentary "Wish You Were Brooklyn: The Electro Jazz House Invasion" was officially released. The soundtrack quickly took over the top spot on the South African Apple Music/iTunes Albums Chart, while one of its singles also reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom. The documentary's award-winning soundtrack included two recordings of Joe Exotic speaking from a federal prison, which JT Barnett provided.
